Nao's New Track "Wait" is a Quiet, Merciful, and Positive Outpour About Failure & Healing
British singer-songwriter, Nao, has released a new single for her upcoming album, 'And Then Life Was Beautiful', which is releasing September 24. "Wait" is an open, soul-bearing ballad to a lover (or loved one) in which she confronts the unspoken between them.
Rather than blaming or condemning, she lets her guard down singing, "І knоw thаt іt’ѕ wоrth іt оf wе ѕtау/ Тhе оnlу wау tо fееl іt іѕ tо brеаk/ Тrуіng tо run аwау іѕ оnlу humаn/Вut іf wе ѕtау thеn wе mіght mаkе іt hоmе." It is a quiet confession that displays open arms, reminding them, and us, that "we ain't perfect" and "The only way to learn is through mistakes."
Nao handles this track with conviction. It's so honest that it connects instantly, speaking to an insecurity that is too common to every person: we are not (and cannot be) perfect. We mess up and we slip into ugliness more than we like to admit. But, we are only human.
My favorite lyric is when she says, "but if we stay we might make it home." It may be how her voice, and the lyrics of this song, are reminiscent of a butterfly finding its way home. This is doubled by the cover of the single, as well as her album in which she is either holding or surrounded by sunflowers.
There is a growth and upwards momentum that are alluded to. Almost as if she is finding her sun. Nao spoke about her album and its message saying, "...it’s hopeful in that through every rough patch, every dark patch or struggle we always come out again."
"Wait" is incredible primarily because it is honest. Sometimes, we look for the grandiose and complicated when instead, there is more healing, inspiration, and growth in opening up.
