'Brighter Days (Are Before Us)': Meet Me @ The Altar's Anthem of Hope

‌Meet Me @ The Altar is a three-member group composed of women of color, leaning full tilt into the early 2000s era pop-punk. They encapsulate the sounds and lyrics we fell in love with at an early age, taking inspiration from the likes of Blink-182, Paramore, and many more that you can read about here.

MMATA has always pumped positivity and empowerment through the veins of their music, and they continue this trend with ‘Brighter Days (Are Before Us)’. With the arrival of their debut EP, Model Citizen, this track proves the group is here to stay and equipped to return 2000s pop-punk to the forefront.

‘Brighter Days’ is bright and fast-paced with all the restless energy familiar to 2000s kids.

Front singer Edith Johnson exudes confidence in the future singing, “Can’t give up now ‘cause I know all the bad will fade away/ It will fade away/ Is it just luck or is the future looking kinda great?”

You will find this track lacks exaggerated (and heavy) production or extensive layers of sounds, and it in no way suffers without the extra fluff. The beauty of this song is that it reminds you of two simple truths:

1). The bad won’t last forever and

2). There is so much to look forward to.

And you feel every inch of their excitement and hope in their barebones, rock-out session. With everything happening in the world, it is a much-needed beacon.

Model Citizen is available now.
